Paste 2011

5-7 April, Esplanade Hotel Fremantle, Western Australia

The ACG is delighted to bring the 2011 International Seminar on Paste and Thickened Tailings to Perth, Western Australia. The last time this very relevant and contemporary event was held in Perth was in March 2007. This annual event continues to expand its excellent international following by being held in countries such as South Africa, Ireland, Chile and Canada.

Paste 2011 will explore the latest advances in the preparation, transportation and deposition of paste and thickened tailings (P&TT) that will be reinforced by current case studies. This seminar will also address the important part that P&TT plays in incremental rehabilitation and its impact on mine closure goals.

The organisers expect state-of-the-art and innovative papers from leading experts and top practitioners throughout the world. These will be presented during one of the most dynamic events on paste and thickened tailings to be held in Australia.

The ACG team looks forward to welcoming you to Perth in April 2011.

About the Keynote Speakers

Angus Paterson, Paterson & Cooke, South Africa

Angus Paterson completed his BSc in Civil Engineering at the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 1984. His post-graduate studies focussed on the analysis of the flow behaviour of high concentration slurries used as backfill in the South African deep level gold mines. During his studies he established many contacts within the South African mining industry that were later to become long-term business clients. After completing his PhD, and a brief stint in a civil engineering consulting practice, he founded Paterson & Cooke together with Dr Robert Cooke, in 1991. Paterson & Cooke soon established itself at the forefront of the hydraulic analysis and design of gravity flow backfill and paste fill systems and as a specialist slurry pipeline group. Angus has worked on slurry pipeline projects throughout the world while maintaining a special interest in high density slurries. He has published numerpapers on slurry pumping and since 2000, has been actively involved in the annual Paste and Thickened Tailings series of seminars, and authored the chapters on pumping high density material in the two editions of "Paste and Thickened Tailings - A Guide" (ACG publication). As Paterson & Cooke's reputation as a slurry pipeline company grew, so did the nature and extent of work being undertaken. The company now offers the full range of services for the design and engineering of slurry pipeline systems. Angus is managing director of Paterson & Cooke's Cape Town office.
